My little boy turned four in January. Four is so old!! I am not old enough to have such a big kid!! He is such a good little boy and I am so grateful for him. For his birthday Monie and Papa gave him a card and ten dollars for him to get something fun. Weldon took him to the store to spend his ten dollars and they came back with a toy that was lots more then ten dollars! I wasn’t surprised, I kind of expected it actually just because Weldon is a sucker where his kids are concerned! (LOL me too, but I think it is sweet that I am not the only one)
Here is Colton with his new “Jake and the Never-Land Pirates” ship. He was really excited because he absolutely loves this show. Weldon said at the store they were about to get a little Batman toy when Colton noticed this one on the top shelf. Weldon said his whole face lit up and he got really excited and said he wanted the ship for his present. It would be mean if we had told him he could go to the store and choose a toy to buy with his money and then not let him get the one he wanted because he wouldn’t understand the concept of the ship costing more then the Batman so he has to get the Batman instead of what he really wanted. There will be plenty of time in his life later that he will learn about that, besides, seeing him so happy and excited how could we say no? What a cutie, he has actually played with this toy a lot and still really loves it.
It was about a week before Colton’s actual birthday when he got the pirate ship so we decided that it would be his gift from us as well, but that seemed a little sad to me to think that he wouldn’t get any thing on his actual birthday so on his birthday we went to Walmart and got him another fish for his fish tank. (I had to go anyway because one thing he was very specific about wanting was blue cupcakes with blue frosting, and I didn’t have any food coloring) When we got there he chose the smallest fish there, so he ended up getting two new fish on his birthday.

Four candles on a blue cupcake with blue frosting, and one super cute little boy!
Make a wish!
(quick story about the cupcakes: the next morning I was vacuuming the living room and I had given both Kaci and Colton a cupcake to eat in the kitchen and left the rest pushed back on the counter to keep them out of Colton’s reach. As I was vacuuming I would glance into the kitchen every once in a while and they were so good just sitting there eating their cupcakes. I was so pleased because I thought that they had finally learned how to eat the whole cupcake rather then just lick off the frosting and then be done. Little did I know that what was actually going on was that Colton was getting down from the table and taking the cupcakes that they had already licked the frosting off of and putting them back on the counter and getting them each a new one. by the time I finished and went back into the kitchen they had licked the frosting off of all the other cupcakes, and there were at least 16 of them to begin with, so that was a lot of sugar for each of them. The lesson that I learned was that Colton had grown over night, and that nothing on the counter is safe any more!!)
So another thing about Colton being four is that he is now a Sunbeam in primary. I took this picture right after his first day in primary. His teacher had given him a little Book of Mormon with a little scripture case and a marking pencil and he was so excited and proud of his big kid scriptures and if he brings them every week they will have a class party.
It is amazing how much he as grown and changed just since his birthday, it is like the age four is a magic gateway to being a big kid. He listens better, he is more obedient, he throws less fits. He has always been such an easy going wonderful child, but now he is learning to express himself by talking, and telling me what is wrong and he also seems to better understand why I tell him to do certain things like staying out of the road and stuff, or maybe I am just doing a better job of taking the time to explain things too him.
I was watching him the other day ride his bike and he was so cute because he would have to stop every once in a while to honk his little bike horn that Grandma Shurtz gave him for his birthday that he loves, and he just seemed so big to me. He sits next to me now on the couch to read books rather then on my lap. But if I think about stuff like that too much it makes me want to cry, so I need to focus on happy things like all of the fun new things we can to with each stage.
Colton love to play games, when Kaci takes a nap we stay up and play games like Candy Land, and Old Maid and a game to help him learn his letters. I also recently taught Colton and Kaci how to play “hide and seek”. They don’t really get the concept but it is cute to watch them playing together. Every time Colton hides as soon as the seeker says “ready or not here I come” he will shout “I’m in here!!” and then giggle and be so excited when Kaci or whoever comes and finds him. Kaci is funny because when it is her turn to hide she will just run and hide where she just found Colton, and if Weldon or I are playing too then they will always hide together. It sure is a lot of fun to play though, mostly because they have so much fun.
I am so grateful that I get to be Colton’s Mama. I don’t think that there has ever been a kid as sweet and wonderful as he is. He is always happy, always trying to help, and is always ready to party. He loves to sing and dance and he is always so kind and thoughtful especially to Kaci and Preston. The amazing thing is that he has actually sang Preston to sleep several times! He can put him to sleep better then I can on most days!! He is so wonderful and so so much fun. I love you Colton!!!
